Some people claim that fat loss is easy, you simply eat less and move more (less calories in and more calories out).
However, if this was the case, then fitness and nutrition industry wouldn’t be growing as fast as it is.
Whilst there is some truth that to lose fat we need to eat less and move more, this is an extreme view point.
At the other end of the spectrum people who believe that this simple approach doesn’t account for:
- Hormonal Imbalance
- Insulin resistance
- PCOS
- Other health problems that affect metabolism.
THE TRUTH IS, NEITHER VIEW POINT IS COMPLETELY WRONG
But neither is completely right either.
The best fat loss programs are objective and don’t adopt an extreme position in favour of either of these arguments.
Looking at the diagram above you can see that a successful fat loss program in it’s simplest form can be broken down into calories in vs calories out.
HOWEVER…
Underneath each of these areas you can see that there are factors that will affect how many calories you need to consume and how many calories you use.
By adopting an extreme position you are prevented from seeing the bigger picture. Humans are a complex system of systems and we have to consider more than just the calorie balance when it comes to fat loss.
THE REASON THE MOST SUCCESSFUL FAT LOSS PROGRAMS ARE RUN BY SUPPORTIVE, HANDS ON COACHING IS BECAUSE THERE IS MORE TO CALORIES IN VS CALORIES OUT THAN FOOD AND EXERCISE.
Humans are a complex system of systems and only by understanding each and every client as an individual can a coach help a client be successful in their fat loss goals.
